The Facts:
Browns CEO Joe Banner made it clear Wednesday that Gordon, suspended for the first two games of the season for a positive codeine test, is on a short leash both with the Browns and the NFL. "He spent a fair amount of time talking to (HC Rob Chudzinski) and he’s got to do some work and he understands he’s going to be held accountable and he gets (that) the rope that’s left isn’t long," said Banner to reporters. "In working with the coaches, they need to see that commitment, that work ethic. Obviously, off the field he needs to make good choices."

Gordon, who says he
ingested the codeine unintentionally in prescription cough syrup, could face possible banishment from the NFL for a year if he tests positive again. In addition to the positive codeine test, Gordon failed three marijuana tests in college and violated the league's substance abuse policy at least one other time to get to the point of a suspension. ... Gordon can practice with the team during training camp and play in all four preseason games, but cannot be with the team Sept. 2-16. The two games he'll miss -- as well as the concern of more severe sanctions with his next transgression -- will make Gordon a better draft day value for fantasy owners. But much will depend on your own personal level of risk tolerance.
