The Facts:
Don’t expect to see Cruz on the field in a game until the Giants open the regular season against Dallas on Sept. 8, per a source. The Giants believe Cruz’s left heel contusion will heal with rest and treatment and the team is not expected to make anything official regarding Cruz’s status for the rest of the preseason. That is the plan right now, I’m told, and while Tom Coughlin would only go as far as to say Cruz likely would not practice Tuesday, his return to the field on game day is all about the Giants’ trip to AT&T Stadium.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
According to Record staffer Art Stapleton, Cruz is also wearing a protective boot on his left foot right now, but how long he sticks with it remains to be seen. There’s no reason to believe the current timetable is a reflection on the severity of Cruz’s injury. As Stapleton suggests, it's pointless for him to play in a game until the Giants’ trip to Dallas. ... Fantasy owners should continue drafting Cruz as previously planned -- at least until we get news to the contrary (subscribers can hit our
