The Facts:
When Brown first fractured his left leg in the preseason finale in New England, he lobbied to stay off the Giants' active roster, insisting he could recover in a few weeks. But the Giants won't be listening. On Tuesday afternoon, the team placed Brown on short-term injured reserve. "See ya'll in week 8," Brown tweeted.

The short-term IR is a designation that a team can use just once a year. It frees up a roster spot, but the player on short-term injured reserve cannot return until Week 8. According to Daily News, Brown was only expected to need 4-6 weeks to recover, but for a Giants team that's already been hard-hit by injuries, the roster spot that the move opens up was too valuable. Starter David Wilson must shoulder the load without Brown, who was expected to be the team's third-down back and goal line runner this season. Behind him are Da'Rel Scott, who has just 11 career carries in limited action, and seventh-round pick Michael Cox.
