The absence of Shane Vereen (
see previous), obviously compounds this injury. The one-two punch is a big blow for the Patriots. Vereen is one of the Patriots' biggest offensive weapons, finishing third on the team with seven catches for 58 receiving yards. Stevan Ridley is the team's starter, but he was benched on Sunday after losing a fumble. The team needs Vereen's hands in the passing game, where rookies Kembrell Thompkins and Sudfeld struggled on Sunday. Rob Gronkowski (back, arm) did not make the trip to Buffalo for the season opener. The team will have to rely on Julian Edelman more than ever with Vereen and Sudfeld potentially out. ... Stay tuned.
