The Facts:
Amendola has decided against having surgery for what at least one doctor suspected was a sports hernia, according to a source. That means, in theory, the slot receiver will be back in the line-up sooner, rather than later.

According to Herald staffer Karen Guregian, a source on Sunday had described Amendola's injury as torn groin muscles. He initially suffered the injury in a preseason game against Tampa, before re-injured the groin in the season opener in Buffalo. There was a conflict of opinion, as one source indicated the Pats did not believe Amendola had a sports hernia and therefore would not need surgery, while a second opinion concluded he did. Recovery time now should be quicker than if Amendola opted for surgery. Guregian reports the thinking is Amendola could be back in a few weeks. Surgery would have put him out at least a month, perhaps longer.
