The Facts:
The Vikings plan on starting Christian Ponder or Matt Cassel at quarterback Sunday instead of trying to turn right away to new acquisition Josh Freeman, HC Leslie Frazier said Monday.

We can go ahead and file this under the non-news news section (real news would have been Freeman starts, but that's another issue). ... Ponder, recovering from a fractured rib, was able to get in some practice Monday. Frazier said he wants to see how Ponder progresses Wednesday and he wants to give Freeman time to get acclimated to his new team. Frazier tried to keep the quarterback situation open-ended the day after the Vikings agreed to terms on a deal -- a one-year contract worth $3 million a league source told the Pioneer Press on Sunday night. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers first-round pick was pursued by several teams, but ultimately picked the Vikings. Asked about Freeman eventually taking over as the starter, Frazier said, ""That's on the table." Just not this week. Not that anybody thought it was.
