The Facts:
Jones-Drew on March 11 will become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career. Two days after the Jaguars completed their 4-12 season, general manager Dave Caldwell said the team would allow Jones-Drew to hit the open market instead of re-signing him. “I’m fine with it,” Jones-Drew said.

MJD continued: “There’s no hard feelings. I gave everything I could to the organization. I appreciate them giving me that opportunity. Wherever I go next year, they’ll have a person ready to play at a high level. ...” As Times-Union staffer Ryan O'Halloran suggests, the problem for Jones-Drew is the market will include running backs LeGarrette Blount, Knowshon Moreno and Ben Tate among others. Jones-Drew turns 29 on March 25 and has career 2,554 touches. Plus, his 3.4-yard per carry average last year was the lowest of his career and only 10 of his 234 carries went for 12 or more yards. Jones-Drew said his advisers have told him a projection on the running back market will come during next month’s Scouting Combine. He shouldn't get his hopes up.
