The Facts:
Among many things new GM Dennis Hickey needs to get a handle on is what he has in his young players and what he can realistically expect from them in 2014. He’ll review tape but also rely on the evaluation of Joe Philbin and his staff. Before Hickey draws his own conclusions, here's some feedback received from inside the building on RBs Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas: “They’re a good complement to each other, and we like Miller’s speed and explosiveness,” a Dolphins staffer said. “Miller has the higher ceiling, but you wish he ran with a more physical [style]. And both have to improve as blockers.”

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The mixed reviews are understandable -- if not generous; Miami's running game was terrible in 2013. Miller (709 yards rushing, two touchdowns) showed no instincts. He rarely set up his blocks, eluded tacklers or ran through tackles. It would be easy to argue he's more a change-of-pace back than a starter. Thomas (406 yards, four touchdowns) was worse than Miller. According to Herald staffer Barry Jackson, most believe the Dolphins will add a running back, with LeGarrette Blount and Donald Brown among free agents available. ESPN's Mel Kiper said no running back might be selected in the first round, with Ohio State's Carlos Hyde a borderline first-rounder. ... Bottom line? Change is coming. Fantasy owners will want to watch for more.
