Banner, set to exit over the next two months, released a statement on Tuesday calling the transition "bittersweet." Owner Jimmy Haslam also released a statement, thanking Banner and Lombardi for their services before shining the spotlight on Farmer, saying: "Ray has a tremendous football IQ, he's compelling, and he understands the types of players we need to acquire and develop in order to win in Cleveland," Haslam wrote. "He embraces his partnership with (coach) Mike Pettine, which is critical in helping build the right team. Ray will provide excellent leadership in our front office. ..." As Profootballtalk.com reminded readers, a week ago, Farmer said the Browns were “in a position to redefine the history books.” Farmer added: “I knew what I had here. I know what I think is going to happen here, and I know what we have in place. So to that degree, the known is better than the unknown. ..."
