Newsome: Ray Rice Still A Big Part Of 2014 Plans
(2/17 1:4 PT)

The Facts:
GM Ozzie Newsome, HC John Harbaugh and team officials continue to huddle about the former Pro Bowl RB's legal situation. Speaking at a news conference to announce Terrell Suggs' contract extension, Newsome said that he and Harbaugh had yet to talk to Rice, but that they hope to do so within the next day. "When I left my office 20 minutes ago, and John had probably been there 15 minutes before then, Ray Rice was still a big part of what we plan to do in 2014," Newsome said. Reported by the Baltimore Sun

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Rice and his fiancee, Janay Palmer, were arrested and charged with simple assault-domestic violence after Revel Casino security called police following a domestic incident between them that was captured on video surveillance, according to a police statement. "The complaint summons indicates that both Rice and Palmer struck each other with their hands," the statement said. No injuries were reported by Rice or Palmer, and both declined medical attention. When asked if he was concerned about Rice, Newsome said he's in an information-gathering mode. "I don't know the situation," Newsome said. "I have not had a chance to talk to Ray. I have had a chance to talk to [director of team security] Darren [Sanders]. With me, I get all the answers. Then that's when we make decisions within this organization, once we get all the information we can get. ..." Given Newsome's initial comments and what we know of the situation, this doesn't sound like it will be a major issue going forward. But we'll continue to follow up as needed.
