Lewis Not Looking To Overload Giovani Bernard
(2/21 3:28 PT)

The Facts:
Asked about possibly increasing Bernard's role on Friday, HC Marvin Lewis said that was unlikely to happen, indicating Bernard's touches were essentially maxed out: "You can't continually pound one guy." Reported by NFL.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
New OC Hue Jackson has made it clear that he intends to go back to a run-first approach with Cincinnati's offense -- in part to take some of the pressure off Andy Dalton and be more consistent. It should be worth noting that in Jackson's two years in Oakland, the Raiders were second in rushing offense in 2010 and seventh when he was the head coach in 2011. Both seasons it was the duo of Michael Bush and Darren McFadden. He has a similar type pairing now with BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Bernard. Green-Ellis was the starter last season, but that will likely change in 2014. While Green-Ellis is a solid back between the tackles and in short yardage, he doesn't provide the speed to the outside or a second gear that Bernard does. Bernard gives the Bengals the dynamic back they have been missing who is a threat to break it at any time. So despite Lewis' contention, we expect to see more Bernard going forward. It just might not be as much as fantasy owners would like.
