Maurice Jones-Drew Eying The Bay Area?
(2/25 1:9 PT)

The Facts:
49ers TE Vernon Davis has hinted that Jones-Drew may be interested in joining the 49ers after he becomes a free agent on March 11. According to Givemesport, Davis posted a picture of himself with the running back on Instagram with the caption, “Me and Maurice Jones Drew discussing the FUTURE a few nights ago. #San Francisco.’’ Reported by the Florida Times-Union

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Although the 49ers have a good running back in Frank Gore, Times-Union beat man Vito Stellino notes the 49ers could seem to be a good fit for Jones-Drew because it would be a homecoming. He’s a native of the Bay Area and went to college at UCLA so he spent his entire life in California until the Jaguars drafted him in 2006. And he returns frequently to the Bay Area and has many relatives still living there. Going to San Francisco also would give him a shot at ending his career with a Super Bowl ring. ... Of course, Jones-Drew has said nothing about being interested in the 49ers. Nor has the team expressed interest in him. Teams can't contact potential free agent until midnight March 7 although they can't start officially signing them until March 11. The NFL gives the teams and the players a weekend window to talk before free agency actually begins. The 49ers would have to figure out a role for Jones-Drew and give him the kind of contract he wants (and Oakland might be the Bay Area team with a better opportunity). Whatever the case, Jones-Drew is not expected back with the Jaguars because GM David Caldwell has said the Jaguars will let Jones-Drew test the free agent waters (although Caldwell left the door open to MJD's return). ... Stay tuned.
