Pierre Thomas' Agent Starting To Discuss Client's Future With Saints
(2/25 9:28 PT)

The Facts:
The agent for Thomas said Tuesday the team has reached out to discuss Thomas' future with the Saints. But Lamont Smith, Thomas' agent, wouldn't comment on what those talks meant for Thomas' future. Reported by the New Orleans Times-Picayune

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As Times-Picayune beat writer Larry Holder notes, Thomas is entering the final year of his contract with the Saints and is set to count $2.9 million against the 2014 salary cap. With the Saints in a financial bind heading into 2014, Thomas could be a candidate to become a salary cap casualty as the Saints would save all of Thomas' $2.9 million cap figure with no dead money attached. By comparison, Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson carry a combined $2.8 million cap figure into the 2014 season. While Ingram and Robinson were effective in the postseason, Thomas led the Saints in rushing last regular season with 549 yards, averaging 3.7 yards per carry, along with two rushing touchdowns. Thomas has also served as an important weapon in the screen pass game through his seven years in New Orleans. He ranked second on the team with 77 catches last season and added three TDs.
