Chargers Releasing FB Le'Ron McClain
(3/4 12:6 PT)

The Facts:
McClain is being released, a source said Tuesday. The move provides $2.5 million in cap room while creating $833,334 in dead money. Reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The 29-year-old was scheduled to enter the final season of his three-year deal. His release was expected, given this year's cost and last year's usage. He played 154 offensive snaps, about nine per game, while also contributing on special teams. Zach Boren, a January signing, is the only fullback left on the roster. McClain's release frees up $2.5 million in cap space on top of the money saved from wide receiver Eddie Royal's contract restructuring Monday. A fine lead blocker with above-average running ability for the position, McClain saw his role diminish under a new coaching staff last season. As NFL.com suggests, teams just don't pay millions to niche players limited to 12 percent of the snaps.
