In the market for a backup quarterback, Vikings coach Brad Childress was presented with a familiar option Monday. McMahon was released after just one season with Philadelphia, where he went 2-5 as a starter in Childress' offense after Donovan McNabb was sidelined by a sports hernia.

Agent Brian Mackler said he hadn't heard from the Vikings regarding McMahon. Other veterans still available are Brian Griese, Aaron Brooks, Kerry Collins, Jay Fiedler, Tommy Maddox, Jamie Martin and Anthony Wright. They are expected to be joined soon by Detroit's Joey Harrington.
