With Julian Edelman testing the waters, the Patriots will host LaFell on Wednesday, according to NFL Network’s Albert Breer.

failed to get Edelman to agree to a three-year offer in advance of the opening of free agency. LaFell has shown signs of competence during his stint in Carolina, but never really emerged as the kind of threat Panthers officials hoped he would. But with Edelman's future uncertain, Aaron Dobson
just undergoing foot surgery and Danny Amendola's
injury history apparently a concern, the Patriots need to find some bodies at the position before Tom Brady revolts (of course, some would suggest adding LaFell level players might have the same result).
