Apparently the Panthers weren't interested enough to make a significant offer. Now Nicks will spend next season working alongside T.Y. Hilton and Reggie Wayne, perhaps providing what Darrius Heyward-Bey was expected (but failed) to deliver last year. A solid No. 2 threat working opposite Wayne that would allow Hilton to work the slot and take advantage of mismatches. ... The fact Nicks gets a one-year deal is no surprise; now he'll get a chance to prove all the negative talk about his desire and attitude were off base. Or not.
