Hakeem Nicks Had An Offer From Panthers; Preferred Fit With Colts
(3/16 1:42 PT)

The Facts:
Saturday, Nicks said his hometown Panthers offered him a contract but ultimately the two sides agreed it wasn’t the best situation. Instead, the former Independence and North Carolina star wide receiver signed a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts worth $3.5 million. “Yeah they made an offer when I talked to (Panthers GM) Dave Gettleman,” Nicks said. “After talking to Gettleman, I think he agreed that [Indy] was the best situation for me, too. ... I feel like I made the best decision and I’m ready to make the best of it.” Reported by the Charlotte Observer

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Nicks spent five seasons with the Giants, who drafted him in the first round of the 2009 draft, and knew Gettleman from his days as a pro personnel executive in the Giants’ front office. ... While Nicks, 26, posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2010 and 2011, but his past two seasons have been hampered by foot and knee injuries. Nicks had a 692-yard 2012 season and 896 receiving yards last season with no touchdowns. Despite those totals -- and the "prove it" deal he got from the Colts, Nicks claims he has nothing to prove. "My play speaks for itself," he said. "I’m always working in silence and letting the game speak loud. ...” Fantasy football owners are all too aware of the fact Nicks' game haven't said much at all. But there is hope for change in Indy. ... We'll be watching for more.
