Following up on the ongoing story. ... The Bengals announced Tuesday that they decided not to match the Browns offer to Hawkins, the restricted free agent, who worked out for the Browns in 2007 after he went undrafted out of Toledo. Reported by the Cleveland Plain Dealer

Hawkins signed his four-year, $13.6 million offer sheet from the Browns on Wednesday night. The offer is front loaded -- including a $3.8 million signing bonus and $10.8 million over the first two years -- which made it tough for the Bengals to match. Hawkins was their fourth receiver. In Cleveland, Hawkins (5-7, 175) would replace recently-released Davone Bess as the Browns' slot receiver. ... In 2012, Hawkins caught a career-high 51 passes for 533 yards and four TDs. Last season, he suffered a serious ankle injury in preseason and played in only eight games, catching 12 passes for 1999 yards.
