The Facts:
Newton, who
recently underwent minor ankle surgery, is expected to be sidelined four months and will miss all of the organized team activities this spring. But Rivera said Newton, who is expected to be back for training camp, will have a chance to develop chemistry with the team's new receivers. "There will be a time where they'll get an opportunity to work (with Newton), " Rivera said. "So I'm not really worried about that."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As Observer staffer Joseph Person notes, the Panthers are in the process of making over their entire receiving corps. They signed Tiquan Underwood and Jerricho Cotchery last week after cutting Steve Smith and losing Ted Ginn, Brandon LaFell and Domenik Hixon in free agency. The Panthers also signed former Minnesota quarterback Joe Webb last week. Rivera said the move was about more than having an extra arm behind backup quarterback Derek Anderson during OTAs. "That's part of it," Rivera said, "but this is a guy that does intrigue us. ..." And Newton's surgically-repaired ankle doesn't concern them. ... We'll be watching for more, but that seems like a reasonable position for fantasy football owners to take too.
