The Facts:
Following up on the
ongoing story. ... GM Ray Farmer indicated Monday that he'd be fine heading into the 2014 season with Hoyer as his starting quarterback -- but a lot can happen between now and then. “I’m comfortable,' Farmer said at the NFL Annual Meeting. "You’ve got to identify the guy that you think can do the role that you’re asking him to do. Here’s a guy that’s had NFL experience. He’s been in NFL camps. He has some tools to move forward with."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Farmer, for one, wasn't surprised that Hoyer played well and went 3-0 in his three starts before suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament. "Why would it (surprise him)?' the GM told Plain Dealer staffer Mary Kay Cabot. "He was brought here for a purpose. We knew he was smart. We knew he was a gym rat. We knew he worked hard. We knew he could process. We knew he could put all the things in place. So I don’t know why it would be shocking that when he actually got an opportunity to do those things that he would do them.” Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said he feels the same way as Farmer, that he'd be happy with Hoyer starting the season if it comes to that. Their confidence in Hoyer, however, didn't stop the Browns from trying to acquire former Texans quarterback Matt Schaub over the past few weeks. The fact the Browns have Hoyer means they're not desperate to take a quarterback with their No. 4 pick -- but it also doesn't rule it out. Either way, Hoyer should have the edge over any competitors heading into training camp. It’ll be up to him to hold it.
