Caldwell Has No Doubt He Can Improve Matthew Stafford's Accuracy
(3/25 7:0 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on the ongoing story. ... Among new HC Jim Caldwell's most pressing tasks will be fixing Stafford, the promising quarterback who has tumbled into mediocrity the past two years. At the center of many of his problems is a decline in accuracy, which sank all the way to 58.5 percent last year. That was 30th in the NFL. But Caldwell believes it doesn't have to be that way. "Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely, without question," Caldwell said, when asked if accuracy could be taught. Reported by MLive.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As MLive.com's Kyle Meinke notes, Caldwell has experience developing quarterbacks. He worked with Peyton Manning for nearly a decade in Indianapolis, and took him to a Super Bowl in 2009, and later road Baltimore's Joe Flacco to a Super Bowl in 2012. He has a reputation around the league for knowing the fundamentals of the position, and just how to impart them. With Stafford, Caldwell said he will focus on accuracy and timing. That includes teaching him how to always pick a small target -- this hip, or that shoulder -- every time he throws a football. "Every single time you throw, you throw at a target," Caldwell said. "(Stafford) has the ability to do that. But the key is to be able to do it more consistently. ..." We'll be watching for signs that Caldwell's coaching is taking hold in coming weeks and months.
