The Facts:
Following up on the
ongoing story. ... Asked at the owners meetings this week about the possibility of an increased role for Bernard, HC Marvin Lewis replied: "The key thing with Gio all year long was to try not to wear him out and get him wore out. That is what I would have to caution the coaches all the time. They kept pushing to have Gio be in there more and more and more but I kept cautioning you are shooting for a 20-game season. ... As the season went on he came through that first part he began to get more and more opportunity, no doubt."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
BenJarvus Green-Ellis was the starter season, but that will likely change in 2014 because he doesn't provide the speed to the outside or a second gear that Bernard does. Bernard gives the Bengals the dynamic back they have been missing who is a threat to break it at any time. They are bringing him along much like the Ravens did with Ray Rice. "I witnessed it in Ray Rice since his rookie year in '09 in Baltimore then from '09 to '10 the difference in him," said Lewis. "We are hoping Gio can take those same steps." Could that mean
a 300-touch season this year? It's something fantasy football owners will want to watch closely. We'll be on this one throughout the offseason.
