Bengals, Andy Dalton Have Begun Talking Contract
(3/31 2:35 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on the ongoing story. ... Bengals owner Mike Brown understands his organization has enjoyed a competitive advantage in the AFC North with a QB earning less than $2 million against the salary cap in each of the past three seasons. Now that Dalton is entering the final year of his rookie contract, though, Brown is faced with the dilemma of securing his quarterback under a new, long-term deal or letting him play out the season with an uncertain future. The sides have already begun feeling each other out on Dalton's price tag. "There have been talks about it. There have been a couple of proposals sent over and different things," Dalton said on Monday. "We're working. Hopefully, we can get something done." Reported by NFL.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Whereas Brown seems truly conflicted about devoting upwards of $15 million annually to a quarterback stuck in NFL purgatory, coach Marvin Lewis has been unequivocal in his support of Dalton. But Brown's feelings are understandable. As NFL.com's Chris Wesseling notes, the surrounding talent has improved the past two years. Dalton's decision-making and field vision have not. In 51 career starts, three of Dalton's 10 lowest single-game QBR scores have come in the Bengals' trio of opening-round playoff losses. Brown has to decide if that's a horse worth backing. We know where Lewis stands. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
