The Facts:
Fox has been given a new, five-year contract that will make him one of the NFL's highest-paid coaches, team president Mark Richardson said Monday. Since taking over a 1-15 team in 2002, Fox has led the Panthers to a Super Bowl and two NFC Championship games.

Fox had two seasons remaining on a contract that paid him around $3 million a season. But Richardson said the team tore up the old contract and gave Fox a new deal that runs through 2010. Exact financial details weren't released, but a move into the ranks of the league's highest-paid coaches would mean something in the range of $5 million annually.
