Sean Payton said the Saints' goal is that Brees will begin throwing during the team's second mini-camp from June 2-4 and be "throwing 100 percent full-go" by training camp. "Now I think early on it's obviously going to be smart of us to kind of treat him like a pitcher and make sure we keep track of how many each day, almost like a pitch count," Payton said. "But I think early June, that camp in June is kind of a little bit of a goal for us."

Brees will attend but not throw during the Saints' first mini-camp next weekend. According to Times-Picayune staffer Mike Triplett, the coach knows as well as anyone that Brees' injury is far from minor. It doesn't help that the injury occurred in Week 17 of last NFL season, meaning the optimistic seven-month recovery timetable lasts into training camp.
