The Lions signed receiver-turned-defensive back Mike Furrey to a one-year contract Tuesday. The Lions listed Furrey as a wide receiver.

Former Rams coach Mike Martz, now Detroit's offensive coordinator, persuaded Furrey to make the move from receiver to safety last year. As a rookie in 2003, the former Arena Football League star made 20 receptions for 189 yards in 13 games. Furrey caught only one pass in eight games two years ago.
