The Facts:
After asking McNair on Monday to leave team headquarters because of liability concerns and his unsettled contract situation, the Titans yesterday issued a statement to explain their position. "This is entirely a risk management problem and not a reflection of the enormous respect we have for Steve, for what he means to our franchise, and the huge contributions he has made as a player and as a person," the statement said.

If things don't change in the stagnant contract negotiations, however, agent James "Bus" Cook said he believes it might be best for the team to just set McNair free. "He is under contract, so they have to do what they have to do," Cook said. "But if we can't agree on a new deal that compensates him. ... The right thing to do is release him.
