The Facts:
The practice whistle will make an early return this weekend when Brad Childress holds the first of his two mandatory mini-camps. The practices will only include veterans and are scheduled to take place indoors, but Childress said he wants to get a better feel for the roster before finalizing draft plans and targeting secondary players in free agency.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Under former coaches Mike Tice and Dennis Green, the Vikings typically held all off-season camps after the draft. New coaches are allowed two mini-camps, however, and Childress has his first scheduled in the middle of the off-season strength and conditioning program. Childress will conduct two practices Friday, two on Saturday and one Sunday. Pertinent developments, of course, will be posted on this site as warranted.
