The Facts:
Todd Bouman and Adrian McPherson are taking every snap at the position this weekend with Drew Brees unable to throw because of his surgically repaired right shoulder. But Sean Payton said that though they are competing for a backup spot, they're not necessarily competing against each other. "I think they're battling," Payton said. "They might be battling versus someone else on another team, and they don't know it."

Payton indicated that if the coaching staff feels they won't be adequate reserves, the team would likely look elsewhere for help. "If they're good enough to be the No. 2, so be it," Payton said. "If not, we'll find someone else that's good enough to be No. 2. ..." Nothing like a new boss, eh?
