A three-time Pro Bowler and one of the game's most explosive playmakers, Johnson has signed a new contract with the Bengals, ESPN.com has learned. In essence, by restructuring the remainder of Johnson's existing contract, which ran through the 2009 campaign, the Bengals created a six-year deal with a total value of $35.5 million.

According to ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli, in terms of "new money," the total value of the new contact minus the money already owed to Johnson under his prior deal, the extension averages over $10 million per year. Johnson will earn $16 million in 2006-2007, compared to the $5.75 million he was scheduled to make before the restructuring and extension.
