Ending months of rampant media speculation, Favre Tuesday confirmed his intention to play for the team this year. The Packers confirmed his return this morning; "The Packers are very pleased that Brett has come to this decision, and look forward to a successful 2006 season," said GM Ted Thompson.

It's worth noting the team's press release included the line: "Of course, as Favre himself would say, he never had said that he wasn't planning a return to the field. ..." We'll also add, as Profootballtalk.com editor Mike Florio has repeatedly pointed out, that this announcement should come as no real surprise. If nothing else, league officials never would have scheduled the Packers for three prime-time games this fall without some assurances Favre would be on the roster.
