The Facts:
In a unexpected bit of candor, Bill Belichick admitted yesterday that he called Dillon before selecting Laurence Maroney in the first round Saturday. "I think he understands and I explained to him what the situation was," Belichick said. "He's professional and he's been a very productive player for us. We expect Corey to have major contributions for us this year."

But Herald staffer Michael Felger suggests there have been rumblings that the Pats' disappointment in Dillon in 2005 was profound, and now we have more evidence of it. Dillon went from a 1,635-yard performer in 2004 (a team record) to a 733-yard runner last season. It remains to be seen how the 32-year old Dillon responds to the arrival of 21-year old Maroney.
