The Facts:
Hoping that a hometown product might be able to fill their place kicking needs, the Falcons have signed Marler, the latest candidate to compete for a starting spot left vacant by the team's reluctance to re-sign veteran unrestricted free agent Todd Peterson.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Despite a solid season from Peterson in 2005, when he converted 23 of 25 field goal, the Falcons have demonstrated little inclination to bring back the 12-year veteran. Which means Marler is now the most experienced placement specialist on a roster that includes three other young candidates for the job. Barring any changes, Marler will probably go to camp as the favorite to win the opening.
