In 2000, Smith, 5-foot-11 and 235 pounds, was a fifth-round draft out of Texas-El Paso by San Francisco. He spent four seasons with 49ers and then two with Detroit. Last year as the Lions' backup fullback, he carried four times for 16 yards and caught six passes for 49 yards.
