The Texans on Monday afternoon signed Smith to a contract of undisclosed length and value, adding an experienced presence to the depth chart. Reported by ESPN.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Smith will vie for the No. 2 job behind starter Domanick Davis, the team's leading rusher each of the past three seasons. The only other backs behind Davis are second-year man Vernard Morency and rookie Wali Lundy, selected in the sixth round of the '06 draft. Jonathan Wells, who had been the primary backup to Davis, remains an unrestricted free agent and Texans officials have made little effort to re-sign him.
