Meier, 27, signed a two-year deal with the Saints last year but appeared in only one game because of a lingering knee injury. The injury gave promising youngster Zach Hilton a chance to prove his worth. Meier ultimately became expendable when the Saints signed free-agent tight end Mark Campbell in March.
