Volek, a six-year veteran, is being treated as the starter right now and took the work with the first-team Monday in the fourth of 14 scheduled on-field workouts.

With Steve McNair barred from working out with the team due to contractual issues, Jeff Fisher seems resigned to going with Volek as the starter -- at least initially. As Fisher explained: "Volek is our most experienced guy and he’s a starter. If there comes a point where that ends up being the way we are going to go then Billy will be ready to step in there. ..." Fisher remains hopeful things will be worked out with McNair, but Volek will get the call until rookie Vince Young can be brought up to speed -- a project that could take considerable time.
