The Facts:
Williams is expected to serve as DeShaun Foster's backup, but the team feels like he can help them out on special teams, too. The first-round pick only returned 13 kickoffs during his college career at Memphis, but they believe he has the potential to be a home-run threat on kickoffs, much like Steve Smith is on punts.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Their desire to improve is understandable -- the Panthers ranked 30th in the NFL on kickoff returns last season. Rod Smart, who has since been released, averaged just 21.2 yards per return while Jamal Robertson didn't do much better, averaging 21.4 yards per return. ... John Fox has never been shy about using his star players as returners, as evidenced by the fact Smith still returns punts even though he's used extensively as a receiver.
