If there are no changes with the personnel at this position throughout training camp, it’s conceivable the Patriots could keep four receivers on the 53-man roster, and make up for that smaller number by keeping four tight ends (one more than 2005) while possibly using the speedy Watson as a wide receiver at times.

According to Globe staffer Mike Reiss, the four receivers almost certain to make the roster are Deion Branch, Troy Brown, Reche Caldwell and rookie Chad Jackson. ... Watson, meanwhile, certainly has the speed necessary to split out on occasion and there's no reason to believe he couldn't be effective working there in spot duty.
