The Facts:
Four years into the five-year contract he signed, Branch is embroiled in a contract dispute with the Patriots. He has told those close to him that he will not report Friday, and he will not be back in a Patriots uniform until the team acts in a more fair fashion. Some that have spoken to Branch believe he is digging in for a protracted holdout that might not end until the 10th week of the season, when Branch would have to report to be credited with this season so he could become a free agent after it.

As NFL Network insider Adam Schefter suggested, it appears the Patriots will be without Branch for an extended time, maybe all time. Perhaps they will want to inquire about trading for Denver's Ashley Lelie, who feels the same way about playing for the Broncos that Branch does for the Patriots.
