The Facts:
McCareins and CB Rayshun Reed were placed on the PUP list after failing Thursday's conditioning drill. Eric Mangini seemed particularly annoyed with McCareins. "I'm not going to put anybody on the field who can't pass the criteria to get on the field," Mangini said.

Although the initial assumption was his status resulted from a foot injury suffered in June, it now appears that's not the case. While the Jets don't have tremendous depth at wideout, Mangini isn't going to go easy on players he perceives to be slacking. ... McCareins has great speed, size and strength to spare. Unfortunately, all those attributes seem to be overshadowed by his inability to avoid nagging injuries and his propensity to drop easy passes. Neither shortcoming will fly under the new regime.
