Doctor's Report On Steve Smith Encouraging
(7/30 9:15 PT)

The Facts:
Smith suffered a strained left hamstring in Saturday afternoon's practice, the team's second workout of training camp. He re-injured the same hamstring that bothered him during June coaching sessions. John Fox said Smith would be listed day-to-day. But the team will be extra cautious and it won't be surprising if it's a few weeks before Smith returns. "We'll get him out here when he's healthy," Fox said after Sunday morning's practice at Wofford. "You take it as slow as need be to heal." Reported by the Charlotte Observer

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Fox recalled that Smith had a similar injury during the 2003 training camp. Asked if he was scared by the sight of his all-pro receiver getting hurt on the opening day of camp, Fox said: "I've seen scarier ones. ... But until you get the MRI or testing done with the medical people, you're a little bit cautious, but it ended up being good news. ..." Stay tuned. We will certainly have more on Smith's progress in coming days.
