The Facts:
Akers tied an NFL record Sunday when he connected on a 63-yard field goal. All right, so training-camp kicks don't count and it wasn't even Akers' personal best on a practice field, but it was still an impressive launch. Akers said it wasn't even his best kick of the day. "My best one was the one I hit from 49 yards," Akers said. "That one would have been good from 68."

Akers said his longest kick in a practice atmosphere was a 72-yarder a few years ago. The longest kick of his career that has counted was a 57-yarder against New England in 2003. New Orleans' Tom Dempsey and Denver's Jason Elam share the NFL record with 63-yard kicks. ... Despite his impressive display, Akers said he was still not fully recovered from the strained right hamstring that forced him to miss four games last season. "I guarantee you I'm not 100 percent," he said. ... Sounds like he's getting pretty close, though.
