Smith will miss the Carolina Panthers' exhibition opener against Buffalo on Saturday. Smith, the NFL's leading receiver last season, missed his 13th straight day of training camp Friday with a strained left hamstring.

"We'll get him out here when he's healthy," John Fox said of Smith last week. "You take it as slow as need be to heal. ..." The recalled that Smith had a similar injury during the 2003 training camp. Fantasy owners shouldn't worry about the missed time. As his comment might suggest, Fox tends to take it easy on injured veterans during training camp. Former Panther Stephen Davis had all of four pre-season carries last summer before lining up as the starter in the regular-season opener.
