The Facts:
With Javon Walker and Rod Smith sitting, Marshall started last night's pre-season opener but was injured on the first series when he landed awkwardly, slamming his knee to the ground. A bump welled up, but the rookie returned to action briefly and tried to play through it. "I was running on it and it felt good," he said. Still, as a precaution, the trainers kept him out the rest of the way.

"I just think I needed to ice it up," Marshall said. "It's basically just a bruise." Mike Shanahan said Marshall will undergo a magnetic resonance imaging test as a precaution but also didn't believe the injury to be serious, especially since the training staff found no looseness in the knee, which oftentimes signifies a torn ligament. Marshall vowed to return to practice Sunday.
