After watching the sluggish rushing attack in Friday night's preseason opener, the Jets seem more determined than ever to acquire a veteran running back. It seems to be a matter of when -- not if -- they pull the trigger on a trade. Derrick Blaylock and Cedric Houston, both trying to fill the Curtis Martin void, combined for only 29 yards on 11 carries in the 16-3 loss to the Bucs.

While the Jets privately believe there's an outside chance he'll be ready for the Sept. 10 opener, Martin is said to be dealing with a bone-on-bone condition in his right knee; it could come down to a pain-tolerance issue.
