If there was any lingering suspense about the Bears' quarterback situation, Lovie Smith put it to rest Friday. Grossman is the starter, and that will not change between now and the season opener three weeks from today at Lambeau Field, when Grossman tries to run his career record against the Green Bay Packers to 3-0.

As Sun-Times staffer Brad Biggs put it: "Discuss Grossman vs. Brian Griese until you're blue in the face. Grossman is the man. ..." The Bears say the offense is a work in progress, and the three touchdowns Brian Griese has produced in four pre-season possessions are evidence he was a smart signing -- nothing more. ... We'll see. This news certainly doesn't lead us to bump Grossman up significantly in our rankings.
