The Facts:
The final preseason game is typically one that sees the Broncos rest most of their starters. "What we usually do in the last game is the established starters will sit out -- and that's really everybody on the offense and defense excluding the running backs," Mike Shanahan revealed Tuesday. That means it could be a busy night for all the running backs -- including first-teamer Mike Bell. As Shanahan further explained: "We'll all find out when we open the season against the Rams who that starting running back will be."

So, with 60 minutes of pre-season football remaining, the competition to be the team's No. 1 running back at St. Louis remains wide open. "There's nobody excluded there," Shanahan said. In addition to Mike Bell and Tatum Bell, that includes Cedric Cobbs, who has been impressive all summer and Ron Dayne, who hasn't. Asked specifically about Cobbs, Shanahan said: "Any time a guy averages over 5.5 yards a carry, he's doing a great job. ..." Stay tuned. More to come.
