The Facts:
Vinatieri has a broken bone in his left (non-kicking) foot, but whether that will keep him out of the team's regular-season opener Sept. 10 at the New York Giants is unclear. "That's what he told us about a week and a half ago," Vinatieri's mother, Judy Vinatieri, said of the injury. "They sent him to a specialist. They found a small broken bone in his foot."

While this injury has long been rumored to a fracture of some nature, this is the first report with a name attached to the source. The Colts, however, continue to characterize the injury as a damaged ligament in the ankle, not a fracture, and say he's "day-to-day." They have expressed optimism that he'll be able to play against the Giants. ... Meanwhile, NFL Network insider Adam Schefter suggests the Colts are going to be extremely cautious with their kicker -- regardless of the actual injury -- and not rush him back knowing that his biggest kicks will come at the end of the season, and Vinatieri could miss the first game or two.
